Just north of Berkeley, in the East Bay hillside, Kensington offers a quiet, small town atmosphere, with spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay, and easy access to transportation for commuting around the Bay Area. A quiet respite from downtown city life, its architecture includes a variety of styles, Tudor, Mediterranean, and contemporary styles that result in wonderful residences with lovely gardens.

Shopping areas, on the Arlington and at Kensington Circle, serve their neighborhood with markets, restaurants, a bakery, drugstore, post office, florist, hardware store, and other convenient shops. Blake Gardens owned and operated by the University of California is opened during the week for self-guided tours and walks in the lovely gardens.

Kensington has a recreation department, tennis courts, and several preschools. Kensington Hilltop Elementary is a very well regarded elementary school, and junior and senior high school students go to school in El Cerrito. Many professors, professionals, and families have made their home in Kensington, because residents find the surroundings pleasantly quiet, while offering easy access to the entire Bay Area.
